The High Commission of India celebrated Diwali, Eid, and Guru Nanak Jayanti on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Indian Gymkhana Club The function was attended by over 325 guests including Members of Parliament Mayors, Judge, Councillors, captains of business & industry, banking, press and media and heads of various socio-cultural, and religious organisations and other prominent members of the Indian diaspora.
Prof. Natpuri, President & Lord Noon, Vice-President of Indian Gymkhana, Baroness Sandip Verma, Mr. Virendra Sharma, MP, Sir Mota Singh, Dr. Rami Ranger, Mr. Joginder Sanger, Cllr Jagdish Sharma, and Ambassador Rajesh N. Prasad spoke on the occasion. The vote of thanks was conveyed by Mr. S. S. Sidhu, Minister (Coordination).
The speakers highlighted the good values of the Indian culture and also the teachings of our great Gurus and religious scriptures. Indian culture gives the message of secularism, brotherhood, compassion, and ‘unity in diversity’. The speakers also underlined the importance of celebrating Diwali, Eid, and Guru Nanak Jayanti together. They felt that such events promote the cohesiveness in the society, where the people belonging to different faiths live together.
